Maintenance &
Road Crew/ Military
This program is
designed for maintenance, road, and municipal crews who operate chain saws to
remove trees from the ground without assistance from an aerial lift truck. The
instructors focus on situations that crews are likely to encounter in their
daily activities. Participants learn techniques for assessing tree height, preparing
brush for chippers, and felling trees near roads, buildings, and power lines.
What is Covered
Level 1:
Personal protective equipment, notching and bore cutting techniques, the five-point
felling plan, dealing with limbs and branches under tension, and supervised
felling practice.
Level 2:
Routine saw maintenance and daily safety check, chain sharpening, dealing with
spring poles and other hazards, body positioning, and supervised felling practice
on a more difficult tree.
